COAL HULK CAST ADRIFT OFF NOUMEA

i BRISBANE, June 15.

The hulk Mombah, of 5000 tons, laden with 3000 tons of coal from Newcastle for Noumea, is drifting helplessly in heavy seas with five island natives aboard, 150 miles northwest of Noumea.

She was being towed by the Sydney tug St. Giles, but was cut adrift when the tug broke down. The tug Oarlock has left Brisbane to take the Mombah in tow and a small French ship, Phogue, is standing by the hulk in case of emergency.
