LATEST FASHIONS AT ASCOT RACE MEETING

(10 a.m.) LONDON, June 15. The Royal Ascot four-day race meeting which opened today was the most dressy function held in Britain since before the war.

Men in the stands wore morning clothes, grey top hats. Women’s "new look” fashions showed a further advance in gaily coloured umbrellas with long handles of Edwardian days. The King, Queen, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret and guests at Windsor Castle for an Ascot house party will drive to the course each day in open landaus drawn by the Windsor greys.

The prize money for the four days amounts to £84,480.
