THOUSANDS OF WAR GRATUITIES NOT YET CLAIMED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 15. Thousands of New Zealand soldiers of the Second World War have neglected to claim their war service gratuities. In stating this, the Director of Base Records, Mr. R. S. Wogan, said that his department was still awaiting application from 11,200 members of the mobilised Territorial Force. In addition, it had been found that 2400 persons of the Second N.Z.E.F. whose surnames were in the A to L category had not applied for their money. These men were being notified. More than 10,000 War Memorial Crosses had been issued so far to the next-of-kin of deceased servicemen, added Mr. Wogan. The relatives of 3000 men had so far failed to apply for crosses.
