BANK SAFE DOOR BLOWN, BUT FOILS RAIDERS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 14. Burglars early this morning blew a large hole in the door of a safe of the Newmarket branch of the Bank of Australasia, but were unable to open the door. A cleaner arriving at 8 o’clock found the premises full of smoke. The burglars gained entrance through a fanlight in the manager’s office. Had they blown open the safe door they would still have had to open two steel compartments in one of which there was a large sum of money.
