WATERSIDERS’ TALKS WITH MR. FRASER

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. June 12. The Mountpark dispute was discussed by the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union officials with the Prime Minister. Mr. P. Fraser, in Wellington this week. According to Mr. H. Barnes, national president of the union, Mr. Fraser told unionists that he would have further discussions with the Government. On Monday morning the Auckland watersiders will hold a stop-work meeting to hear the report of the negotiations with the Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan, and the Waterfront Control Commission. Replying today to Mr. McLagan's statement, Mr. Barnes said the Government and the commission were both advised that the union would accept the tribunal subject to the agreement entered into by the union and the commission on March 17 being honoured. He said this condition was made by him on behalf of the union in a press statement at the time.
