FARM SCHOOL AT SHOWGROUNDS ON WEDNESDAY
Subjects of particular interest to farmers of the district have been chosen by lecturers and demonstrators to take part in the second annual farm school to be conducted on Wednesday and Thursday under the auspices of the Gisborne Veterinary Club. The lectures will be given at the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s showgrounds and will start immediately following the annual meeting of the club on Wednesday morning.
A start was made with the school last year and was accepted by f hosc who attended as being highly successful. The lecturers did not work to an advertised programme last year. For the convenience of farmers it was decided this year to announce the days and approximate times of specific lectures to enable those interested in any particular subject or subjects to plan accordingly. The official opening will be con ducted at 10.30 am. by the chairman of the Veterinary Services Council, Mr. A. Linton, and thereafter the programme for the two days will be as follows: — Wednesday,.—ll a.m., “Natural Increase in Hill Country Flocks and Herds,” Mr. R. Crawford, B.Sc., V.B.Sc.; noon, lunch; 1 p.m., “Penicillin and Mastitis,” Mr. J. Newhook, M.R.C.V.S., lecturer in Veterinary Science, Massey Agricultural College; 1.40 p.m., “Facial Eczema Precaul ions,” Mr. J, E. V. Simp son; 2.15 p.m., “Trichonomas Abortion," Dr. .J. F. Filmer. D.V.Sc., director, Animal Research Division. Department of Agriculture; 3 p.m., afternoon tea: 3.20 pan., demonstrations by Mr. A. Leslie, F.R.C.V.S., chief veterinary exe cutive officer, Veterinary Services Council, and staff of the Gisborne Veterinary Club; 8 p.m., Films and address at National Party rooms on dairycow production by Mr. A. 11. Ward, technical adviser to the New Zealand Dairy Board. Thursday.—lo a.m.. “Effect of Improper Feeding on Cattle and Sheep Health,” Mr, A. Leslie; 10.20 a.m., "Effect of Improper Feeding on Cattle and Sheep Growth,” Dr. C. P. McKeekan, B.Ag.Sc., Ph.D., superintendent Ruakura Animal Research Station; 10.40 a.m., “Growing of Supplementary Crops,” Mr. 11. de’O. Chamberlain; 11 a.m., discussion on previous three talks; 11.20 a.m., “Progeny Testing ol Bulls,” Mr. A. 11. Ward; noon, lunch; 1 p.m., “Treatment of Injuries in the Horse,' Mr. J.
