WAIPIRO BAY CHARGE: MAN SENT FOR TRIAL
A 20-vear-old labourer, Henry August Harrison (Mr. K. Gillanders Scott) pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge at Waipiro Bay with a 15-year-old girl in the Magistrate’s Court in Ruatoria on Friday. Following the hearing of evidence the accused was committed for trial in the Supreme Court at Gisborne by Messrs. H. G. Burnett and R. H. Wicksteed, J.Ps. Bail, on Harrison’s own recognisance, of £SO was allowed. Senior-Sergeant C. H. 1 Reardon prosecuted. A girl who was stated to be 15 years of age at the time of the alleged offences in October last said she had been keeping company with Harrison for some months' last year. In May this year she had given birth to a child.
The mother of the previous witness produced the girl's birth certificate, which showed that she was born on February 2, 1932.
Constable D. B. P. Harvey, produced a statement, allegedly made by the accused when interviewed concerning the alleged offence.
