REFUND TO BRIDGE COY. SHAREHODERS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. June 7. Twenty shillings in the £1 will be refunded by the Auckland Harbour Bridge Compay to its shareholders. An agreement has been signed under which the company and M. R. Hornibrook, Limited, Brisbane, will assign all rights conferred on the company to the Government. In return the Government has transferred £15,000 to the company sufficient to pay all its liabilities, settle directors’ fees and repay shareholders.

A meeting of shareholders has been called for June 28 to appoint liquidators. The company was formed in 1931 with £IO,OOO capital to build a bridge across the Waitemata Harbour. Following the recommendations of the 1946 commission the Government promised to build the bridge.
