Although oulhooked beltter than two to one, Manawatu directed a concentrated attack on the Wellington half, V. Bevan, and by deadly tackling frustrated most attacking moves. In the closing stages Manawatu gained a full ascendancy and ranged the field in scintillating movements. For Wellington, Phillips kicked a penalty goat and Roberts scored a try. For Manawalu. Harkness kicked a penalty goal and Young scored a try.
