“TOLL OF OUR ROADS FAR TOO HIGH”

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 5. “TF someone had taken a little more care all these accidents could have been avoided,” said the Minister of Transport, Mr. F. Hackett, commenting on the number of fatal road accidents. “During May the death roll on our roads was 14, which, while showing a reduction over the same period last year, was far too high. Four pedestrians were killed when they were struck down by motor vehicles, four cyclists received fatal injuries, and three passengers and a driver died as a result of accidents. Two motor-cyclists also were killed.”
