POWER CUTS

Sir. —Why is it that Gisborne is still subject to powers cuts when outside districts are back to normal, and why the annoying cuts of, at times, a tew minutes duration between 5 and (J p.m. when the industrial load is oil? Surely the local power board will not try to tell us that the cuts are saving power—the same amount is generated and it cannot be stored for later use. Oh, yes, there will be an explanation, but only a juggling with the figures. An official report in Monday’s Auckland Herald states that the consumption of power in the North Island was 5.90 below the allocation fixed by the State Hydro-Electric Department. The same paper reports that water heaters may be left on continuously. Is the power board unable to put up a fight for Gisborne, or is the trouble

a local one?—“GASLIGHT"
