CORINEUS (BRED LIKE A CUP HORSE) & FOXSTAR (THIRD LAST YEAR) MEET IN G.N. HURDLES
(Herald Special Service.)
THE 1948 Great Northern meeting opens at Ellerslie tomorrow, when the important races will be the Great Northern Hurdles and the A.R.C. Cornwall Handicap, while on Monday the big cross-country event will be decided for a stake which is the highest in the Dominion or Australia for a steeplechase event. Large fields are carded for the opening day, with four of the races, including the Cornwall, having to he run in divisions. On present indications the going will be soft, so that horses able to handle that type of course will be expected to be included in the final summings-up.
