GIRL KILLED IN SMASH ON WAY HOME FROM DANCE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. June 2. A young woman died in the Auckland hospital two hours after a car in which she was being driven nomc Horn a dance ploughed through mrec shopverandah posts and against a telegraph post on Mount Eden Road shortly after midnight. The victim was: Miss Shirley Agnes Jacqueline Moore, aged 20. daughter of Mr. William James Moore, of Mount FoskiU. Miss Moore kept house for her father who is a widower.
Two male occupants of the car were lhe driver, Early Johnson, aged in of Otahuhu, who suffered slight nead injuries and a cut on a knee and Graham Whittle, aged Id of Otahuhu who suffered facial cuts and shock Miss Moore occupied the front seat with the driver. The accident occurred near tue intersection of Mount Eden Roai and Esplanade Road during heavy rain. Nearby residents were awakened by the sound of crashing corrugated iron and timber from (SOft. of t; e verandah in front of a dairy and grocery stoic ns the verandah posts collapsed on the wreckage of the small car. The injured occupants were helped from the wreckage ey a passing taxidriver who drove them immediately to the hospital. At the inquest opened oefore the en.v coroner Mr. A. Addison, it was stated that the car lights had 'ailed just beiore the crash. .The inquest was adjourned.
