The jumpers in the two events at Levin were not of strong class although they may develop. In the hurdles First •Act won from the outsider, Sergeant Jack who was having his first hurdle race.' Royal Victor, third, was also a novice in this department. Ganges, the favourite, was a big disappointment. The winner had previously been in the money in the last month. First Act is a six-year-old by Ringmaster, sire ot the steeplechase winner at Grecnmcadows on the same afternoon, from Missal, by Limond from the imported Mirabelle II- . , Vernon won his first race when leading the field home in the Levin Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase. He had been in the money on a few' occasions between the flags. At WoodviLe he came from a long way back to run second to Vassilikos. He is trained by Allen McDonald, who was an accomplished steeplechase rider. Vernon is bv Amaranthus from Evasion. Second to him w'as the Lord Qucx gelding, Captain Jesse, with Incident, another r'et of Lord Quex. third. Incident is gaining the required confidence, and may later win an important jumping o\ ent.
