KAITI PROBLEMS

RESIDENTS MEET NEIGHBOURS’ INTEREST ! PARK PROJECT’S SUCCESS ! “People in the Cook County area ! abutting on the outer Kaiti portion of j the borough of Gisborne are deeply interested in the project. Some of our most valuable help has been given by people who cannot qualify by residence for membership in the association,” stated Mr. Malcolm Campbell, chairman of the Kaiti Residents’ Progressive Association, addressing the annual meettine of members on Tuesday evening. “The establishment of the Kaiti park in Wainui road is regarded by many Cook County residents as likely to be of material assistance to them. They are at least as keen on the idea as are most of our members,” the chairman added. Non-Members’ Interest As an earnest of the interest taken by non-members in the park project, Mr. T. G. Nowell, honorary secretary, stated that the cultivation recently undertaken in the course of which barley and grass had been sown, had been done without cost to the committee by Messrs. J. R. Sherriff and W. R. Judson, Cook County residents. The work of the committee in respect to the Easter sports meeting was the subject of congratulatory reference and a rivalry developed in regard to the chief credits. The chairman and secretary both nominated Mr. H. T. Nicholas as chiefly responsible for the the preparation of the ground, while Mr. Nicholas deprecated his own part in the organisation of the gymkana and attributed its success to Mr. Nowell in the main. He proposed a vote of thanks to the secretary, which was carried by acclamation As an indication of the satisfaction of the members present, the officers and committee were re-elected en bloc, and life-membership privileges were bestowed upon Messrs. J. R. Sherriff and W. R. Judson. The - latter honour was also conferred upon Mrs. C. Woodford, who had given facilities for drainage of the park through her property. A vote of thanks was tendered to the Home Guard Band for, its voluntary services at the gymkana. Credit Balance of £l5O It was reported that, with substantial donations and other forms of revenue, the year had ended with a credit balance of £l5O, the chief liability being the price of the Kaiti park area, recently purchased by the committee. A programme of work towards, .the raising of further funds was submittedto the meeting and approved, the chairman urging that all members of the association should do their utmost in support of the general committee and the social committee. The strength of the latter committee was doubled in view of the extensive responsibilities which would fall upon its members.

A revision of the boundaries of,-the outer Kaiti area, as defined in the membership rule, was discussed with interest, and the committee was recommended to revise the rule to include all residents whose sections ha,ve a frontage to de Lautour road. Many of these residents, it was stated, already had tendered valuable aid to the’association. ' *sb
