Second Seal, fourth, was in the cal: throughout and was either first or sec- ' ond until the run in the strniaht "'her? he weakened. The Broiofort four-vest-old. The Denbigh, who wap fifth s'-mulu be a winner before long. Next to fims'i was Pimlico. Welcome Guest once again 'of his party and supporters down. On his great finishing run of the first day to win over a mile, he was expected by many to win or. Saturday, but did not reproduce that form. He may be more soiid next season. Dark Flash and Royal Victor were not dangerous The former was in. third place going out ol the straight Ihe first ime, but quickly went back. Swift Quarry third in the Cup. was never even a place possibility being neai or ir. the rear throughout. File Hasting's owned-and-trained Gild Chase, although fading over the last two furlongs was in the van up to That stage and is likely to win in the near future. Double For Stable

Sea Fury tomplcled the double for Mick Thompson's Awapuni stable and in winning 'he seven furlong Okawa Handicap made amends tor recent bad luck. Turning for nome her prospects did not seem bright, but she made a great run and won convincingly. She is a four-vear-old bv Tiderace from Ohui and on more than one occasion has showed signs of staying. Favourite on both machines, Fleetwood, gave his- many admirers a great run for their money. Inside the distance he was going well, but when Sea Fury closed lie could not respond. Sorrell, 7-9 in the ,-etting. ran quite a respectable third after being close up to tlie leaders for most of the way. This gelding seldom runs a poor race and in his present condition should win before long. The well backed Bonny Pay miss-id the jump out. His fourth place at the finish was his best during the race. Tussock did better than expected for fifth. His next effort will be at Gisborne next month. Citation was up close for about three furlongs and then faded. Precedency found the distance too short, but is making the trip this week to Hawera where he will be racing over his correct course. Opulant, hopped away smartly and was second for about a furlong. Ladyship was never in the call, this also applying to Audacious. Carrying 111 b. overweight General Victory showed speed to lead the. field into the straight but then retired. Trench Meter again sprinted for a little over half a mile, but before the straight was reached had had enough. Hack Field Outclassed Ballinagh outclassed the Hastings Hack Cup field, not a very 'hot'_ lot with the Wairoa owned-and-trained Tina Mohio topweight with 9st lib. The winner is owned by Mr, Howard Glazebrook, donator of the 100 guinea Gold Cup won on the first day by King’s Ransom. Ballinagh is a four-year-old by Balloch from the imported Ante Room and as a yearling cost four figures, but his form to date has not been as good as expected. He won a race last season at Riccarton, but this was his first success since. On the first day at Hastings he finished seventh over a distance that was not far enough for him. On the first day the three places in the middle distance hack race were filled by “surprise" horses. Of that trio the runner-up Lord Latour, was the onlyone to be prominent again. He occupied second position again. Tino Mohio, after having every show, was fourth. Lord Boswell, third on the opening day was never in the call at all. The Poverty Bay-bred Batley, having his first run over a middle distance, ran a promising race to finish third after being set the fairly stiff task of winning all the way Skywriter, having his first over eleven furlongs went a fair race to finish fifth. Rondetle was near the front for awhile, but at the finish was not in the hunt, while the Gisborne representative. Master Moti, was never a place possibility. The well-backed, Mine Host, was feeling the effects of recent racing. At the finish he was fairly well back though early in the rare he was up with the leading pair. Strong- Horsemanship The strong horsemanship of A. Mid wood was a deciding factor in the success of the favourite Rockanui in the back hurdles event. The Rocket six year-old was always well placed. When making his run at the last obstacle but one he nearly came down. Midwood kept him up, however, and also helped the gelding at the finish. Rockanui appears to stay on well. Deny’s Gift ran a better race than was expected and returned a big dividend for second place Deny’s Gift might have won had he not been cramped for room at the last hurdle. On this form he should be kept in mind for his next start, which in all probablitv will be at the forthcoming Gisborne meeting. With a track that suited him. Imperial Crown did a little better than on the opening day and gained third money. After him came Trig Point, who showed promise considering this was his first hurdle race. Peter Brierlv. although never dangerous. ran a fair race and was next to pass the winning post just ahead of the two steeplechasers, Whiphand and Killmanagh. General Lvtup did not run un to the form he displayed on the ’l.-st day Gyration was never dangerous. At the second fence Otamarie fell and brought down Morocco and Master Peter, run-ner-up on the first day.
