FIRST IN 10 YEARS

REVIVAL OF INTEREST CHRYSANTHEMUM DISPLAY The revival of interest during the past two years in the growing of chrysanthemums, once seen in practically every garden in Gisborne, prompted some discussion at a recent meeting of the executive committee of thfe P.B. Horticultural Society. It was pointed out that a chrysanthemum show, once a strong feature of the societies schedule, had not been held for the past 10 years. With the renewed interest being taken in this type of decorative flower, members were unanimous that growers should be en couraged. Following that meeting an energetic sub-committee has been engaged in arranging a chrysanthemum display, the general feeling being that a display should be held this year and possibly a show next year. Arrangements have been made for several growers to stage their blooms in the Bon Accord Lounge on Thursday while flowers are being air mailed from two prominent growers in Palmerston North Several varieties of chrysanthemums which have not been seen in Gisborne before will be amongst those sent from Palmerston.

A leading Hawke's Bay grower, Mr. R. G Wilson, who last week was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s bronze medal at the Napier chrysanthemum show for his display of blooms, also has promised to support the display
