STOLEN CAR

POSSIBLE ESCAPEE SEEN NEAR NAPIER Police officials in Gisborne are on the watch for a car which was stolen from a garage m Levin on Wednesday night and is thought to be driven by Leslie John Parnell, who escaped from the Mt. Crawford prison, Wellington, last Sunday. The car was seen on the Gisborne side of Napier yesterday afternoon, and is believed to be heading this way. A shed was broken into in Wairoa last night, and it is thought that possibly the escapee was responsible for this. The car, a 1938 two-door Ford sedan painted fawn and brown, with a blue trailer light attached to the top of the hood, may be carrying either one of two sets of number plates When it was stolen it bore the number 136629. but yesterday the number plates were 108967. Petrol station proprietors have been warned to keep their petrol pumps securely locked at night, and anyone seeing the car is asked to report the fact immediately to the nearest police station.
