‘CON’ MAN CLEARS £3OOO FROM N.S.W. VICTIMS
(10 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 20. In one of the cleverest swindles for years a confidence man has fleeced at least seven people in New South Wales of over £3OOO. Posing as a representative of the Disposals Commission with authority to sell motor vehicles and other goods, he obtained money from the victims for goods stated to be at Albury. Detectives are conducting an Australia-wide search for an experienced confidence man who has a police record in New Zealand and four Australian States. Some police officials believe that he has left Australia, probably by plane. The swindler showed the victims a catalogue, obtained deposits and escorted the clients to a plane for Albury. He then went to a Sydney bank, cashed the cheques, closed his account ancl disappeared.
