MANY PITS STILL IDLE

AMERICAN STATES NEW YORK, April 13. Miners at three large pits and one big commercial pit in Western Pennsylvania failed to report tor work this morning, despite the settlement of the pension dispute. These mines employ nearly 3000 men. It is thought that the miners may have decided to wait and see what happens to’ Mr'. John L Lewis, the head of their union, in the hearing of the charge of contempt of court on Wednesday before resuming work. In addition, virtually all mines in Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee are still idle. Over 12,000 anthracite miners, about one-third of (he number who walked out last week in sympathy with the soft coal strike, returned to work in Pennsylvania today.
