WILL TAKE YEARS
WORK AT RONGOTAI FLYING-BOATS URGED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 15. The establishment of a flying-boat service between Wellington and Auckland as a suitable alternative while the Rongotai scheme is being effected was advocated by the deputy-Mayor of Wellington, Mr. R. L. Mac Alister, in an address last night. “Rongotai will not be in use in six or 12 months—it will be a matter of years,” said Mr. Mac Alister. “What is being done to provide a suitable alternative? Nothing. At least a flying-boat service could be provided between Auckland and Evans Bay. It could be provided at a cost of about £3OOO. "The necessary boats could be obtained. Even if they were worn out by the time Rongotai was ready, we would have had something to tide us over.”
