DRAINAGE MATTERS

“CONFLICT OF INTERESTS”

COUNTY COUNCIL'S VIEWS (P.A.) MASTERTON, April 14. Because ot what it terms the conflict of interests between county councils and catchment boards on drainage and other matters, the Masterton County Council decided yesterday to recommend to the Counties Association that the Local Government Commission should go into the matter. The County Council suggests that the commission should inquire into and de fine what functions relating to watercourses could best be discharged by the catchment boards and what should be left to the county councils. The Masterton County Council considers this course more effective than reference direct to the Soil Conservation Council.
