YACHT RACING
SATURDAY’S EVENT
EASTER REGATTA VISIT Six boats started in the races conducted by the Gisborne Yacht Club, Inc., on the bay on Saturday. The weather was very good for the larger craft as there was a sharp chop and gusty wind. A lot of the boats are out of the water getting ready for the regatta to be held at Easter with the NaDier Sailing Club visitors. The boats got away to a good start at 2.30 p.m. and remained in a good bunch for the first two legs of the race. Dam’ Fino was first to cross the starting line and maintained the lead for the first leg, but as she had trouble with her spinnaker and could not set it on the next leg Aerial passed her and got a slight lead from the rest of the fleet.
There was a good display of sailing by all the boats and some very pretty work was seen when the boats were battling for position in the first leg. Results: Aerial, B. Forbes, 55min. 15sec„ 1; Swift, K. Ford. 59min.- 52sec., 2: Dam’ Fino, J. Wallen, 60min., 3; Beth, J. Jennings, 66m:n. 23sec„ 4; Salome, W. Selman, 69min. 32sec., 5; Zeddie, W. Green, 75min. 15sec„ 6, As there was only one Tauranga class boat available there was no race for this class, but R. Forbes in his little craft was sailing about the harbour entrance.
Dam’ Fino provided a surprise this week as she was only 4min. 45sec. behind Aerial, instead of her usual 10 to 15 minutes.
