HAWKE'S BAY SUCCESS

DEWAR CUP POLO P.B. TEAM JUST BEATEN (P.A.) HASTINGS. March 22. In ideal conditions a crowd of about 2000 saw the finals of the Hawke’s Bay Polo Club's annual tournament played on Saturday afternoon. After three days’ solid play the ground was inclined to be loose and at times players and ponies were obscured in clouds of dust.

The Dewar Cup seinior competition was won by Hawke’s Bav A. who debeated Poverty Bay A by 4 goals to three in one of the tournament’s hard-est-fought matches. Poverty Bav made a gallant effort to overtake the lead Hawke’s Bay established in the first three chukkas. and the last chukka had the home team constantly on the defence.

The junior cup and junior handicap trophv were won by Poverty Bay B, who defeated Hawke’s Bay B by eight goals to four.

In earlier games Rangitikei A defeated Poverty Bay A by six goals to five, and Rangitikei B beat Hawke’s Bay C by six goals to two.

The tronhies were Drosentod by Mrs. C. F. McKenzie, wife of the club’s president.
