RECORD FIELD
LINCOLNSHIRE HOP. AGED HORSE’S VICTORY (11 a.m.) LONDON, March 15. The Lincolnshire Handicap on Saturday, with its world record entry of 58 runners, was compared with the charge of the Light Brigade. It was one of the finest spectacles seen in recent racing history. The winner. Commissar, by Sircosmo out of Salar, is eight years old. It was only the fifth time that a horse over six vears of age has won the Lincolnshire and the first time since 1893 since the race was won by an aged horse. Commissar was bought by Burdett Brothers for 270 guineas. He broke down as a three-year-old and did not run again until he was six when he won the Goodwood Stewards’ Cup. Racing interest now centres in the four and a-half miles Grand National to be run at Aintree next Saturday. There are 43 acceptors and the favourite is Silver Fame, owned by Lord Bicester. He will carry list. 61b. Silver Fame has been unbeaten over fences this year and has won five chases at distances from two miles to three miles and five furlongs. Others fancied are Rowland Roy, Cloncurrig, Cromwell, Loughconn and Loyal Antrim.
