VOTES EXPENDED
COUNCIL ROAD WORK (Herald Correspondent.) A good percentage of the road work in the Waikohu County for which money was voted in the last estimates has been completed, the lack of material for bridges causing the main hold-up in the works programme. At the monthly meeting yesterday of the Waikohu County Council the engineer, Mr. S. R. Currie, reported on the road votes as follows: “Bruce’s road: This work is completed except for a 2in. layer of crushed metal. Pendreigh's bridge: The abuts and piers are completed and ready for the steel joists. Taumata road: The re-vote and new vote are completed. Distance one mile of re-formation and base course. Shaw’s road: Work completed; 90 chains of base and top-course metalling. Oliver road: Work completed; 67 chains of _ base course metalling Mangahaumia road: Work completed, five miles of widening, culverting and top-course metalling. “Motu front road bridges, culvert and open crossings: Part of the hardwood timber has come to hand and the balance is due to arrive shortly. Makaretu road metalling: Not started. This work can be done during the late autumn and winter. Tarndale road widening: Not started. The plant will be available within a month and some of this work can be gone on with then.” The engineer also reported that general maintenance had been carried out on the roads in the various ridings. Posts for repairs to stock paddocks were on order from three separate sources and the repairs would be attended to as soon as the material came to hand.
