CHAMPION PACERS MEET IN METRO. TROTS

(Herald Special Service.)

The champion pacers Emulous and Highland Fling have both accepted in the £3OOO Rattray Handicap, to be run tomorrow, the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting. This clash will be eagerly awaited in both New Zealand and Australia as there exists a decided difference of opinion as to which is the better pacer. In all the other races the best of their class claims engagement. There is a possibility that the course will be easier than has been the case of late, but at the same time a heavy track is not expected. The New Zealand Trotting Stakes will give the three-year-olds a chance to show their quality, but a surprise absentee from this race is the New Zealand Derby yyinner Sir Vivian, who recently won a two-mile race at the big Auckland trotting meeting. All the races have a very open outlook and with so many proved and promising horses engaged it might not be exactly a favourite’s day, but the following are expected to carry the confidence of their admirers:— PRELIMINARY HANDICAP—NationaI Velvet, Ace of Diamonds, Notus. EXPRESS HANDICAP. Scotch Music, Gold Peg, Bel Hamed. N.Z. TROTTING STAKES.—Encircle, Bessie Grattan, Pacing Pegasus. RATTRAY HANDICAP—EmuIous, Highland Fling, Dundee Sandy. AUTUMN STAKES. Maudeen, King Cobra, Sahara Queen, CRAVEN HANDICAP. —Commander Scott, Indigo, Stirling Castle. STEWARDS' HANDICAP.—Frank Scott, Toushay, Pardon Me* SPEEDWAY HANDICAP. Pimpernel, Stirling Castle, Logan Rey. The acceptors:— 10.45—Preliminary Handicap, of £9OO ; 4.36 class; 2 miles.
