CEREBRAL PALSY

RESEARCH IN DOMINION EMINENT DOCTOR ARRIVES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 10. To give his services free in a survey of plastics—victims of cerebral palsy in New Zealand, Dr. Earl R. Carlson, a world authority on this disease of which he himself is a victim, has arrived in Auckland with his wife. After a survey he will report to the Government and to the New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society. Until he was 18 years of age. Dr Carlson could no nothing for himself, he told reporters. First, he had to learn to control his emotions and then the control of his muscular movements became easier. Therapy, drugs and surgery all played their part, but schooling was most important of all. At a special school the victim would receive physical treatment as well as mental aid'. It appeared there was room for such a school in New Zealand. As far as he could gather, good work had been done in the Dominion. He suggested that diagnostic centres might be organised at strategic points throughout the country so that children could be sent to a centra) school as soon as possible.
