BETTER AIR SERVICE

PROMISED FOR GISBORNE Larger aircraft and more frequent airways services are promised to Gisborne during the present year, but it is not yet known when these services will be instituted. However, a permit has been granted for the erection of increased hangar space at Gisborne and a contract has been let for this work. Mr. G. A. Nicholls told last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce that he had been assured by the chairman of directors of the National Airways Corporation, Sir Leonard Isitt, that larger aircraft and increased services would be instituted as soon as the aircraft were available. The thanks of the chamber were expressed to the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. F. Jones, for his work on behalf of Gisborne in obtaining extra air services over the holiday period. Gisborne had been allocated about 60 per cent, of the available aircraft hours over the holidays.
