SWIMMING ABANDONED

CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 17. Because the closing of the swimming baths to children means that junior swimmers will be unable to practice and because of the unlikelihood of the health restrictions being lifted in time to permit the normal resumption of activities this swimming season, the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association has decided to abandon the New Zealand junior and intermediate championship meeting which was to have been held at Stratford in January. The Taranaki centre had asked permission to cancel the meeting.
