CHINA APPRECIATION
DOMINION LIVESTOCK j BEST UNRRA GIFTS ' (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 16. “You must emphasise the fact that New Zealand livestock was the best that UNRRA gave China,” said a Wellington Chinese, Mr. Ken Choy, who returned by the Wahine this morning after effecting the delivery of a cargo of livestock to China.
Of 1025 sheep dispatched from New Zealand, 964 reached China, and of 400 cattle 381 arrived. The casualties occurred before the shipment reached Shanghai. Both sheep and cattle were intended for stud purposes as part of a stockimprovement plan. The sheep, Corriedales, went to north-west China and Pekin and the cattle to Formosa, Kwangsi and Nanking. The sheep were flown to their destinations and one of the ewes lambed after arriving in the north-western area.
