EVIDENCE AT INQUEST

MELBOURNE, Dec. 16.

Evidence that there had been rumours around the Footscray district that the police had declared an “open season” for anyone wanting to kill Malcolm McLean Appleby were given at the inquest into his death by shooting on November 27.

The coroner’s finding was murder by person or persons unknown. One witness said that Appleby had many enemies in the district and that since his death, many people had said he “had it coming to him”.
