WAR REPARATIONS
GERMAN FACTORIES 682 NOW DISMANTLED LONDON, Nov. 28. 0 The list of industrial plants to be dismantled for reparations in the AngloAmerican zones was issued recently. The total number of plants to be dismantled is 682 (compared with 1636 originally listed for dismantling) of which 302 are war plants; 92 are concerned with ferrous metals; 11 with non-ferrous metals; 42 with chemicals; 224 with mechanical engineering; 4 with electrical engineering; 3 with, shipbuilding; and 4 are power plants. Of the plants, 496 are in the British zone, and 186 in the American. The list includes those plants which have already been dismantled, but does not include those in certain prohibited industries, producing aluminium, magnesium, beryllium and vanadium, the future of which is still under review. Those industries which produce ball and roller bearings, synthetic ammonia, synthetic rubber and synthetic gasolme and which were temporarily permitted to resume production under the March, 1946, plan, are also excluded from the list but are not therefore necessarily exempt from dismantling. It is stated that if, within 14 days, the Land Governments care to submit proposals for the substitution* for any plant of equal value and capjacity, from the same branch of industry, and from within the same Land, they will be carefully considered.
