FALSE TAX RETURNS

STRATFORD CONVICTION NEGLIGENCE ALLEGATION (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 16'. Mijo Radich, of Stratford, restaurant proprieter, was convicted by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., of negligence in making false returns of income tax for the three years ended March 31. 1944. Radich had admitted negligence, but formally denied wilful falsity and it was with the object of proving this that the Crown continued the proceedings. The income tax dcficiences were alleged for the three years to have amounted to £1177. Added to this was an alleged deficiency in national and social security charge payments of £482. The magistrate deferred the imposition of a oenalty on the charge of negligence and at the conclusion of the hearing of the charge of willufly making false returns reserved his decision, saying that he must consider the figures and submissions.
