SURPRISE RUGBY WIN

YORKSHIRE D. DANCASHIRE

(10 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 15. Yorkshire sprang the surprise of the English Rugby Union’s season on Saturday when they beat the county championship holders, Lancashire by 16 points to 5. Lancashire must now play off against Cheshire for the northern group leadership and the right to meet East Midlands in the semi-final and the right to meet East Midlands in the semi-final of this year’s championship on February 7.

Cheshire, who beat Northumberland on Saturday, lost to Lancashire last month, their only defeat in the northern group competition this season.

Gloucestershire by defeating Devon at Bristol On Saturday won the southwestern division leadership. They will now meet either Berkshire or Eastern Counties in the second semi-final of the county championship.
