Link With Lanarkshire
In a recent reference to the well-be-ing of Scotlands oldest triplets Mrs Mary Thomson and Messrs Robert and John Marshall,, the Dundee People’s Journal mentions a link between Gisborne and Lanarkshire maintained by Mrs Thomson. This Scottish lady is not only secretary of the Lanarkshire Burns Association, a thriving organisation which has more branches than Ayrshire, Robert Burns’ home shire, can boast; but she is the only woman member of the Burns Federation. Mrs Thomson has represented New Zealand on the federation for the past two years, an appointment which stems from her connection with the formation of the Gisborne Burns Society. According to the journals story, when the folk in Gisborne decided to form the third Burns Society in New Zealand, one of the founders wrote to'his sister in Scotland for information. This lady passed the .inquiry on to Mrs Thomson, who forwarded a pile of literature on Burns procedure and much other helpful information.
