LANCASTRIAN LEAVES

REPAIRED AT OHAKEA GROUND STAFF PRAISED (P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 13. The four-engined Royal Air Force Lancastrian aircraft which has been at Ohakea for nearly two weeks left for Sydney at 8.5 a.m. today in perfect weather. A considerable amount of work was put into the aircraft by the general engineering section at the station, including repairs to a petrol tank on the inner port wing and a complete top overhaul by the airframe repairs section under the command of Flight Lieutenant Fitzgerald. The commander of the Lancastria, Flight Lieutenant Flowers, paid a high tribute yesterday to the efficiency of the ground staff at Ohakea. Yesterday afternoon a trial flight was made which lasted three-quarters of an hour. In addition to the six members of the crew there were nine passengers on board. About 150 miles was travelled.
