PUBLIC SERVICE CLERKS CHANGE IN POLICY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. A change in policy providing for the employment of girls in clerical grades of the public service was announced today by the Public Service'Commissioner. Recruiting to clerical grades has been, confined to males for many years, but girl cadets may now be appointed on the same starting salary scale as boys and have prospects of promotion in the service. Advancement to more responsible positions with higher salary, levels is open to qualified persons, and men and women will compete on merit. The commission also improved salary scales for shorthand typists, who will receive the same commencing salary, according to qualifications, as cadets.
