CONTRACT SIGNED £18,000,000 CAPITAL WORK IN QUEENSLAND BRISBANE, Dec. 12. An agreement between the Queensland Government and the Electric Supply Corporation Overseas, Limited, of London, for the development of the Blair Athol open-cut coalfields has been signed by the Premier,. Mr. E. M. Hanlon, and the company’s representative, Mr. T. J. Hirst. Under the scheme about £18,000,000 of British capital will be spent in the development of the deposits. This will include the building of a railway to the coast and the establishment of a deepsea port. “I believe we have made a start on a new era of development in this State and hope that at the conclusion of the period of this agreement the Queensland people and the principals of this company will be happy as a result of what will have been accomplished,” said Mr. Hanlon. Meanwhile, the general secretary of the Miners’ Federation, Mr. G. W. S. Grant, stated that the federation would be mobilised to resist any move to use labour controlled by the rival' Australian Workers’ Union in the production of coal at Blair Athol.
