TE KARAKA IDENTITY
MRS. W. GREGGAN DIES 21 YEARS ASSOCIATION A woman of outstanding character ' who will be sadly missed in thes Te Karaka district, Mrs. Mabel Alice ' Greggan died at a private hospital in ' Gisborne last night. She was the wife of Mr. William Greggan, until recently police constable at Te Karaka. Mrs. Greggan was born in Sheffield, England, 61 years ago, and at the age of 24 married Mr. Greggan in Liverpool. The couple came to New Zealand 36 years ago, settling first in Wellington and later in Levin. Twenty-one years ago Constable Greggan was transfeerred to Te Karaka and Mrs. Greggan resided there until her death. Of a particularly kindly disposition, Mrs. Greggan took a very keen interest in the affairs of the community and was always ready to assist those requiring aid. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, and among other community activities was associated with the Te Karaka sports organisation and various affairs in the interests of the returned soldiers of the district. Although she had not been in the best of health for the past four years Mrs. Greggan retained her interest on all of the district activities. To mourn their loss she leaves her husband and one daughter, Mrs. S. K. Menzies, Gisborne. There are also three grandchildren. . A service is to be held in Cochrane’s Chapel, Williams street, at 2 p.m. on Monday, after which the burial will take place at the Taruheru cemetery.
