RAILAGE ON LIME
SOUTHLAND COMPLAINT (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 13. Disappointment at the recommendations made in the report of the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee of the House of Representatives concerning the railage on lime v/as expressed at a meeting of the Southland provincial executive of the Federated Farmers.
It was considered that the proposals of the Lime Investigation Committee, 1939, were the solution to the problem and met with the approval of producers. Mr. A R. Johnston alleged that the leaders of the industry had been trapped by men who were far too shrewd, he said. When the question of subsidies was raised the farmers never dreamed that lime was to be included. The following resolution was passed:—
“That this executive is strongly opposed to any sums being used from the meat stabilisation account or the dairy stabilisation account for the benefit of any particular section or sections of farmers, and that the Dominion executive and the Meat Board and Dairy Board be advised to this effect.”
