KANIMBLA’S ARRIVAL FROM EAST —Arrangements concerning the arrival at Auckland' of the transport Kanimbla, with 257 members of the Second N.Z.FJF. returning from Japan, were announced yesterday. The vessel, which was due to arrive late last night, was to berth about 8 am. today. Troops for South Auckland, Hamilton, the Bay .of Plenty and Thames were to leave Auckland by rail at 9.8 a.m., and those for Gisborne and Taranaki by road services at about 8.30 a.m. The Gisborne men are expected to arrive home at 9.30 p.m. METEOROLOGISTS® PUZZLED.—Air Force meteorologists in Auckland are puzzled by a press report cabled from Vancouver that a small balloon had been picked up on a beach with a metal cylinder bearing the name ‘\Jirnimy, ,, and the address ‘’Aiickland, New Zealand, July 15, 1947.” The balloon was similar to those used by meteorological experts, but smaller. Auckland meteorological officers are doubtful if the balloon could have reached Vancouver in 73 days under the prevailing wind conditions. One official said he definitely thought it a hoax.
