APPEAL DISMISSED

SENTENCE ON JOCKEY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 27The Court of Appeal heard an appeal against the sentence on Aubrey Midwood, Palmerston North, jockey, who was sentenced at the Napier sessions of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Smith to four months’ imprisonment and the cancellation of his motor driving license for three years for failing to ston and render assistance after an accident.

Counsel for the prisoner submitted that the sentence should be reduced on the ground that it was unduly severe in comparison with sentences for similar offences, and that the cancellation of Midwood’s license would affect appellant unfavourably in his employment as a jockey. The court dismissed the appeal.
