(Herald Correspondent A The Wairoa men’s hockey team suffered defeat at the hands of Napier in Napier on Saturday by five goals to three, when playing for the Maurere Shield. The game was very fast and closely contested. In a friendly ladies match Wairoa was again beaten by the narrow margin of two goals to one. Mesdames D. J. and C. L. Carr, Wairoa have received adviced that their brother, Mr Reuben Mekolick, died m the Lower Hutt Hospital last Friday at the age of 46 years. Mr' R. Keiha, officer in charge of Maori rehabilitation, was a week-end visitor to Wairoa. The death has occurred in Rotorua of Mr Thomas Hayward. Mr Flayward saw service overseas, where he con* tracted malaria and had not enjoyed good health sincj his return. Mrs Tamnhori, Wairoa, who is a sister of the deceased, has left with her husband (he Rev. J. Tamahori, for Rotorua, in order to be present at the funeral.
