FURTHER DELAY

PRESENTATION OF BUDGET (P.R.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. There is a further delay in tiie presentation of the Budget to the House of Representatives. The Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, stated today: “I cannot sec any possibility of the Budget coming dowii next Thursday.” The Minister, when announcing the revised policy regarding subsidies on a large number of commodities, mentioned that this was being placed before the Arbitration Court before it completed its decision on the application for a general wage increase and he indicated today that the date for the introduction of the Financial Statement must be to some extent dependent on (he court’s judgment regarding wages. A A sitting of the Arbitration Court has been fixed for this afternoon to hear additional submissions by interested parties on the application for a new scale of wages. The sitting follows the announcement by the Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, that there would be a withdrawal or reduction of subsidies on certain commodities and that the court might desire to give the interested parties an opportunity to rebate their cases in accordance with the new conditions.
