ORDEAL IN SNOW
RESCUE OF HARRIER INJURY TO SHOULDER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. Some members of the Brooklyn Harrier Ciub spent hours on the cold, bleak hills near Makara on Saturday afternoon assisting a runner who had slipped down the side of a ridge and dislocated his shoulder. Snow was falling at the time and there was nothing from which a makeshift stretcher could be made. Although the man, Mr. George Waller, was suffering great pain four harriers started to carry him while two others ran on ahead to summon help. Mr. Waller and his helpers suffered considerably from the cold as it was snowing at the time and they were only wearing shorts and singlets. It took them nearly two hours to get to the roadside. Meanwhile an ambulance had been summoned and took Mr. Waller to hospital suffering from shock and the cold as well as from the dislocated shoulder.
Mr. Waffer is one of Wellington's best known athletes.
