CHARGES OF THEFT
FOUR SEAMEN IN COURT GOODS VALUED AT £4OO (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 11. ' Arrested early this morning, four members of the crew of the liner Akaroa, which arrived from Southampton yesterday were charged in the Police Court with the theft of goods belonging j to the company. They were jointly charged with stealing 56 carnets. 20 bed quilts and 19 holts of material of a to!el value of £367, They are Frederick William Robert Cherry, aged 21, John James Heptinstall, aged 22, Peter Hiscock. aged 26, and Gordon Arthur Smith, aged 20. Cherry was also charged with stealing materiai and 10 nairs ot silk stockings of a total value of £32. The accused were remanded till August 19.
