AROUND WORLD IN 73 HOURS
CAPT. ODOM BACK AT CHICAGO AGAIN RECORD LOWERED BY ABOUT 113 HOURS (N.Z.P.A. —Reuter— Copyright.) (11 a.m.) CHICAGO, August 10. Captain W. Odom landed at Chicago at 2.58 p.m., New York daylight time, creating a new round-the-world record of 73 hours 5 minutes. The flier said he was "awfully tired.” He said he had been flying by manual control all the way from India, where his automatic pilot broke down. His average speed was 270 miles an hour.
Captain Odom lowered Mr. AViley I’ost’s record established in 1933 by approximately 113 hours.
After leaving Karachi, Captain Odom landed for a short time at Calcutta and then flew direct to Tokyo.
The plane landed at Anchorage. Maska. at 3.34 a.m. New York time. It was the first stop on American soil in the flight. Lie was then one hour ahead of schedule. He took off from Anchorage at 4.46 a.m. New York time for the 3000-mile last lap to Chicago.
Captain Odom used the converted A. 26 attack bomber “Reynolds Bombshell,” in which he and Mr Milton Reynolds flew around the world earliei this year-
