WATER SPEED RECORD

ATTEMPT POSTPONED (10.30 a.m.) LONDON. June 13. After a test on Lake Coniston today. Sir Malcolm Campbell announced that his attempt on his own world water speed record of 141.7 m.p.h. in 1939 had been postponed for a month. The Bluebird jet-powered speedboat will undergo further adjustments. The Bluebird today was “snaking” (slewing off the course) and a number of important adjustments would be necessary before the record attempt could be made. Sir Malcolm Campbell said the highest speed in the trials "was about 100 to 110 miles an hour.
