METHODIST GUILD
Members of the Methodist Ladies' Guild together with invited members of the Fireside Club and other visitors, totalling 70 in all. were present at a social afternoon held in the schoolroom "last Wednesday. Mrs. H. J. Poole, president, was in the chair and opened the meeting with a hymn and prayer. A motion of sympathy was extended to Mrs. G. Holmes in the loss of her sister. Mrs. Poole announced that the Rev. W G. Slade, president of conference, would visit Gisborne on May 14, when a rally would be held in the evening. Members of the guild were asked to assist with the supper. It was agreed that a jumble sale be held in the schoolroom early in May. A floral posy was presented, to Mrs. Broughton, one of the first arid oldest members of the Devonport Guild in Auckland. A bouquet also was given to Mrs. Forge in acknowledgment of her years of service as secretary of the guild. Two musical items were contributed by Miss D. Olsen, and Mrs. N. Hooper entertained with elocutionary items. An amusing competition was won by Mrs. Corscaaden, and a display of aprons and other gifts for the bazaar was the subject of interest. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames G. Holmes, L. Stitchbury R Matthews, F. J. Butler and E McCulloch. The Rev. B. M. Tasker spoke of the work of women's organisations in the church and expressed his pleasure at the gathering. He later closed the meeting with tjie Benediction.
